OUR STORY

We’re building something different.

After a decade, Streetscapes is evolving into a social enterprise because we believe in giving people a bit more than support. We believe in giving people real resources, power, opportunities and means to take back control of their own lives.

Agency and autonomy are at the heart of Streetscapes. We work with people who have lived long on the streets with least options available to them and who face most stigma. Here the don’t just receive services, they make decisions about where they want their lives to go, they contribute positively in the community, they run our houses. We walk alongside them, because they are capable, driven and hard working. And a lot of fun to work with.

We have seen that work can be transformative, and the most effective way for someone to turn their lives around. It brings purpose, resources, builds confidence and networks. But there isn’t enough jobs waiting for everyone, and we don’t want to take away opportunities from our young matriculants.

So we are creating our own.

Care and job creation go hand in hand. People need support, but more than anything they need independence, responsibility and the opportunity to contribute. Streetscapes is building spaces in the green economy where previously street based people can find all these things. Creating employment in food waste, organic gardening, eco-laundromat, honey-bees, social outreach - we are not simply working in communities, but we are building them. We value creating connections, belonging and a feeling that everyone has something to contribute.

More than three quarters of our staff have graduated from the Streetscapes programme themselves. They know the journey because they’ve lived it, and now they’re helping others find their way forward.

And we’re looking to the future, too. Stepping into the green economy, means building pathways off the streets that are good for people and the planet.

Behind Streetscapes is a diverse and dedicated team, bringing together different skills and experiences — all working towards one shared purpose: building people and creating pathways to a better future.

From Psychosocial Support, Skills Development to Operations and our Social Enterprises, each department plays an important role in supporting people experiencing homelessness and vulnerability.

Together, we combine care, skills, practical support, and meaningful opportunities to create a more holistic approach helping people build confidence, develop skills, and move towards greater independence and autonomy.

At Streetscapes, our work is ultimately about people. We believe real transformation happens when we come together as one team — walking alongside each person, recognising their strengths, creating opportunities, and supporting them to move forward.
